Course Description

P8182 Writing a Successful NIH Grant

Credits: 1

This seminar-style course will lead students through the process of writing an NIH-style grant application. By the end of the course, each student submits a written outline for a research proposal following NIH guidelines for either an R01 or K (career development) award. The emphasis in this course is on the quality of the proposed research, taking into account feasibility, relevance, innovation, ethical foundation, and public health impact. As a culminating experience, students make oral presentations summarizing their research proposals to an invited panel of senior, experienced CUMC faculty, and receive feedback on their proposed research questions and approaches.
